Canning Centre


INTRODUCTION :-
Fruit and vegetable processing and canning centre is located at Agriculture Complex, Lalmandi Srinagar . It has been established decades back in early seventies and it primarily caters to the processing needs of the people of Kashmir valley.The main aim of this processing and canning centre is to impart training to the interested people in the field of Fruit and Vegetable processing so that they are able to process various types of foods (Fruits and Vegetables) at a small scale ,either at their home or in small scale processing units.

Besides ,this centre also works round the year processing of various fruits and vegetables as per their season. The products mainly made at this centre are Tomato puree, Apple Jam, Apple juice, Apple Chutney, various Jams,Jellies,Squashes,Pickles.In addition to this canning of various fruits and vegetables is also done here e.g Cherry, Peas, Pineapple,pear etc By adoption of new and improved varieties ,proper fertilizer schedule and various plant protection measures ,there has been a tremendous increase in the production of fruits and vegetables in Kashmir.

People are producing surplus fruits and vegetable and being unaware how to process this ,much of it is wasted. The people do not know the processing techniques which otherwise they would use to process their surplus or unmarketable produce. Here comes the role of fruit and vegetable processing. The perishable fruits and vegetables if processed will to a great extent solve the food problem and make foods available in the off season also. In addition to it there is value addition to our fruits and vegetables also which help in inceasing of economy of entrepreneur.

A I M S AND O B J E C T I V E S

1) Demonstration on various Fruit and Vegetable Preservation techniques before the farming community and other interested persons.

2) Conducting of Mobile Demonstrations to show the various techniques of Fruit and Vegetable Preservation.

3) Conducting of various training courses ranging from
